Wounding accused claims self defence

A woman accused of wounding was granted bail on Friday after claiming self defence.

Sharon Allen, 55, of Guyhoc Park, was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in Georgetown after being charged with malicious wounding and threatening behaviour.

It is alleged that on April 15, at Guyhoc Park, she unlawfully and maliciously wounded Denzil Sobers. It is also alleged that she used threatening language toward Sobers.

While Allen denied the two charges, her attorney told the court that Sobers, who is known to the accused, went to her home and attacked her before she defended herself.

The magistrate then granted bail for the wounding charge and the threatening behaviour charge in the amount of $25,000 and $5,000, respectively.  The matters were then adjourned until June 1.
