Security guard charged with breaking into friend’s home

A security guard who is accused of breaking into his friend’s home and stealing jewellery and cash was put on $10,000 bail.

Neil Clarke, 27, was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday  where he pleaded with Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus for bail to be the smallest amount after being read the break and enter and larceny charge.

The charge against him states that on May 4, 2021, at East Ruimveldt, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Marcia Steele and stole $45,000 cash, three gold chains, two gold rings and a gold band, amounting to $415,000, property of Marcia Steele.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge before asking the court to assign the lowest bail because he had already been placed on $20,000 station bail. He also said that he only had $10,000 on him. He also told the court that he was previously charged with assault.

The prosecutor told the court that according to his facts, Steele and Clarke are family friends. He said that Clarke was allegedly seen by Steele, as he was taking the items from the living room of the house and based on the substantial amount of money the articles cost, he is asking that the court to set substantial bail. It was also stated that the man was previously charged, but the Magistrate responded that the man had already paid bail and attended court on his own. This is an indication, she contended, that the man fully intends to attend court.

Clarke was placed on $10,000 bail and the matter was adjourned until May 31.
