Experienced Golden Jaguars midfielder Neil Danns has reiterated his desire to represent the Golden Jaguars Senior Men’s Program, at the impending 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers slated to resume in St. Kitts and Nevis.

This was stated during a brief interview with Stabroek Sport. According to Danns, he is committed to once again representing the nation at the prestigious championship, which will resume in the month of June.

Declaring, “Yes, I’m committed to playing for the nation,” Danns, 38, was axed from the opening two 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers squad for the Trinidad and Tobago and Bahamas fixtures.

The midfield dynamo, who is the Golden Jaguars most high profile alumni, currently plies his trade for recently crowned Welsh National League champion Connah’s Quay Nomads in the Cymru Premier club, following stints in the English Premier League with Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City.

Danns, who is slated to feature in the UEFA Champions League 1st round qualifiers, has scored nine goals from 17 appearances for the national programme, with three goals recorded in the team’s maiden 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup campaign, in the process securing the label of Guyana’s lone scorer in the event.

Asked if the any member of the management or coaching staff has contacted him to ascertain his possible availability for the impending qualifiers, Danns revealed that no one from the federation has communicated to him regarding possible selection for the upcoming encounter. “No one has heard of selection yet. So I’m still unsure. I hope to be involved but I have to wait and see.”

Guyana is scheduled to resume their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign on June 4 when they travel to St. Kitts and Nevis. They will now host their final match in the pool against the Puerto Ricans four days later. The match was initially slated for local shores.

The Golden Jaguars ended the first round of the qualifiers with a record of one win and a defeat, following an opening 3-0 loss to Caribbean heavyweight Trinidad and Tobago on March 25, and a 4-0 victory against lowly The Bahamas.  Both matches were held in the Dominican Republic.

Presently, the Guyanese sit in third place on three points, trailing St. Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago who possess six and four points respectively. Only the group winner will progress to the second stage of the qualifiers.
