The South Turkeyen Sports Committee will today run off a pre-independence ‘Champion of Champions’ three-a-side small-goal football championship on Sunday May 23, the committee announced in a release yesterday
According to the correspondence, several teams from various villages within the Georgetown and East Coast Demerara environs, are slated to compete in the event. Among the teams scheduled to compete are: Sophia, Plaisance, Lodge, Better Hope, Enterprise, Ogle, and Charlestown. The venue of the event will be disclosed at a later date. An entrance fee of $1,000 per player is required to enter the tournament in the senior section. On the other hand, entrance to the U-16 division is free of charge.
Winners will receive trophies and medals donated by APNU Member of Parliament and Shadow Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Jermaine Figueira. The organisers are Johnny ‘Overseas’ Barnwell, and Rodwell Williams.
