COVID claims four more lives, 116 new cases reported

The Ministry of Health yesterday said that four more persons who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have died. This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 359.

The newly confirmed fatalities are a 73-year-old Mahaica-Berbice man on May 17th, a 78-year-old female from Essequibo Islands-West Demerara on May 21 and a 42-year-old woman on that same day from Mahaica-Berbice.  Another woman, a 77-year-old from East Berbice-Corentyne passed away on May 19th.

The patients were admitted with COVID-19-like symptoms but died while receiving care at the ministry’s medical institutions. Samples were taken at the time of admission which subsequently returned positive tests. 

Meanwhile, yesterday’s dashboard revealed that there were 116 new cases of the virus. Nineteen persons are in the COVID ICU.
