COVID-19 claims four more lives

Four new recorded deaths have pushed Guyana’s fatality toll as a result of COVID-19 to 400.

This was disclosed by the Ministry of Health in a press release yesterday which stated that the four new deaths were recorded on June 1 and June 2. A 67-year-old woman and an 88-year-old man both from Region Four passed on June 1, while a 71-year-old man from Region Four and an 81-year old woman from Region Ten died the following day.

Meanwhile 119 new cases of the virus were reported thus increasing Guyana’s total confirmed cases to 17,376. These came after some 1,375 persons were tested bringing the total number of persons tested to 157,555.

The new cases were recorded in seven of the country’s ten administrative regions; Region Two (1 new case), Region Three (16), Region Four (46), Region Five (7), Region Six (13), Region Nine (26) and Region Ten (10 new cases).

There are now 1,886 active cases, 103 of whom are in institutional isolation while another 1,783 are in home isolation. Some 17 persons remain in the country’s COVID-19 ICU and 46 more persons have recovered which lifts the total recovered cases to 15,073.
