Port Mourant driver charged over death of GRA security guard

A man was yesterday charged over the death of a security guard who was struck by a motor car along the Number 77 Village, Corentyne Road, in Berbice.

Danny Nanku, 32, of Port Mourant, Corentyne, was brought before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Springlands Magistrate’s Courts where he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

The indictable charge states that on May 26, at Number 77 Village, Corentyne, he drove motorcar HC 3098 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of 41-year-old Norma Rose.

Magistrate Singh placed him on $100,000 bail and the matter was adjourned until June 1.

Rose, who was a security guard attached to the Guyana Revenue Authority located in Springlands, and of Scottsburg Village, Upper Corentyne, was struck down at about 9:30 hrs.
