Cyclist dies in Loo Creek Public Rd accident

A 48-year-old pedal cyclist died last night after he was struck down along the Loo Creek Public Road, Linden/Soesdyke Highway.

Dead is Kumar Persaud, a resident of the Seventh-day Adventist camp site, Linden/Soesdyke Highway.

The accident occurred around 6.20 pm.

The driver, a 30-year-old Barbadian missionary is presently in police custody assisting with the investigation.

Stabroek News was reliably informed that investigation revealed that motor pick-up, GSS 7395 was proceeding north along the western side of the public road when the driver alleged that Persaud, who was in front of her made a sudden turn into her path.

Upon noticing this, the driver told the police that she swerved to avoid a collision but despite her effort, the vehicle struck Persaud.

As a result of the impact, Persaud fell on the road where he sustained injuries about his body.

He was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Diamond Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

On Sunday night, minibus driver, Mark Ault lost his life after he was involved in a three-vehicle accident at Dora on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.

One resident, who wished not to be named, told Stabroek News that the section of the road where the accident occurred is usually dark at nights since there are no street lights.

“I don’t know how many more people got to die before they can put lights on this road,” the man said.
