Cops intercept suspicious car, arrest rental service owner

Follow a tip about a planned robbery, police on Thursday intercepted a car that it is believed was to be used in the crime.

The Guyana Police Force said that based on information received about the planned robbery, it dispatched two patrols to Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.

Around 6.23 pm, a red car, fitting the description given to police, was approaching from the opposite direction.

The police said ranks attempted to stop the car but the driver sped away. However, he was recognised by one of the ranks.

A chase ensued but he managed to elude the police.

The car was subsequently found abandoned at the back of Tuschen Housing Scheme with the key inside and the doors opened.

It was taken to the Leonora Police Station and lodged.

The owner of the vehicle, who operates a car rental service, was subsequently contacted and after being interviewed she was taken into custody pending further investigations.
