Four arrested after St Ignatius home invasion

Four men are now in police custody after a home invasion at St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi.

The attack occurred on Thursday night when the victims, a pregnant 18-year-old teacher and a 26-year-old mechanic, were in bed.

According to the Guyana Police Force, three suspects, each armed with a cutlass, kicked down their front door and began to inflict several lashes and chops to the body of the mechanic, who eventually escaped.

The teacher then observed the perpetrators searching their home on directives from the eldest of the three suspects.

The men then reportedly used their machetes to destroy a bicycle, a hammock and a black Honda XR motorcycle, bearing registration #CG 4118.

The suspects then left the home and the young woman discovered her cellphone and music box missing.

Further checks revealed a quantity of jewellery was also missing.

A report was made to the police and, acting on information, a raid was conducted on three houses in Tabatinga, St. Ignatius Village and Lethem, where four males, ages 18, 22, 23 and 49, were arrested. The three suspects are said to be among them.

A Brazilian-made motorcycle was found and is presently lodged at Lethem Police Station pending investigations, the police added.
