Meadow Bank fish vendor charged with assaulting neighbour

A man was yesterday charged with unlawfully assaulting his neighbour and placed on $20,000 bail.

Leon Welcome, a fish vendor of Meadow Bank, Georgetown, was before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts where he denied assaulting his neighbour.

The charge against him states that on June 16, at Rahaman Park, he unlawfully assaulted his neighbour. He pleaded not guilty and explained that he went to the woman’s residence to speak to the mother of his child when the woman attacked him, but he did not assault her.

However, the police prosecutor told the court that according to the facts, the two had a misunderstanding and Welcome left. He said that the man returned with a cutlass which he used to chop the woman four times.

He was placed on $20,000 bail and told to return to court on August 3.
