Two West Indies women players Chadean Nation and Chinelle Henry are in a conscious and stable condition after collapsing on separate occasions on the field of play on Friday.
The reasons for their collapse have not been disclosed. According to Cricket West Indies (CWI) via text, the Jamaican pair was rushed to the hospital after collapsing minutes apart during Pakistan’s chase in the second Women’s T20I on Friday.
CWI has not given any further update on the medical assessment while requests for information remain unanswered.
Head coach, Courtney Walsh, in a post-match interview indicated, “It’s never easy in those conditions and situations…we are waiting on all the information we could get and they have our full support…”
He said that it was understandable that the team could have lost focus after the incidents but the players were encouraged to remain focused and they came out with the win. The win Friday gave the West Indies a 2-0 series lead going into today’s final match of the series. The visitor’s captain, Javeria Khan is hopeful that the two players could recover in time to be part of today’s encounter.
“The thoughts and prayers of the whole Pakistan team are with Chinelle Henry and Chedean Nation. We wish them quick recovery and are hopeful that we will play against them in our next match on Sunday,” she said in a statement.
Khan added, “Such incidents are tragic and can shake whole dressing rooms. Hats off to the West Indies that they turned up and completed the match despite the grave incident.”
