Nandu hits half century on Canada return

Canada-based Guyanese youth all-rounder, Matthew Nandu scored a half century and took a four-wicket haul upon his return to Canada last weekend.

The left-handed opener was instrumental in Tranzac Cricket Club’s eight-wicket win over Mississauga Ramblers at King City on Saturday.

Ramblers batted first and were bowled out for 141 in 49 overs in the Toronto District Cricket Association 50-over tournament while Tranzac replied with 142 for two in 33 overs.

Nandu marked his return with an unbeaten 79. The West Indies under-19 selectee’s 105-ball innings, featured six boundaries and he added 70 for the opening partnership with Aaron Singh who made 10 from 37 balls.

Nandu was supported by Arjuna Sukhu (17) and Kairav Sharma (15 not out) who smashed three boundaries to see Tranzac over the line.

Earlier, Ramblers were kept under control by Garvet Garth who bagged 3-20 and Jonathan Michael who took 3-25. The pair received support from Ashtan Deosammy (1-13), Nash Peter (1-27) and Harsh Thaker (1-30) while Nandu was economical, going for 21 runs from his 10 overs.

Haaris Kirmani top scored for Ramblers with 33 from 43 balls. He struck three fours and one six before Garth dismissed him via return catch.

Shubhan Gogna and Umair Khalid chipped in with 24 and 21 respectively while extras accounted for 21 runs.

The following day, Nandu turned out for Kaieteur International Sports Club B to lead them to an eight-wicket win over Palace Panthers in the Scarborough Cricket League 50-over tournament, this time with his off-spin.

Batting first, Panthers were bowled out for 110 in 34.5 overs compliments of Nandu who copped 4-19. Trevor Jerrick, Sukhu and Jonathan Singh supported with two wickets each. S. Bordi top scored with 20 from 33 balls for Panthers with A. Docrat (18) and C. Rathod (15) supporting.

Kaieteur then romped their way to 111 for two with 28.5 overs to spare. The Nauth brothers, Ravindra (29 not out) and Navindra (27) led the way with the Nandu brothers, Matthew (22) and Marcus (15 not out) aiding the chase. Y. Motara and Docrat picked up one wicket each.
