Man acquitted of rape of woman

Ronald Ali was on Tuesday acquitted on a charge of raping a Linden woman back in 2019.

Following hours of deliberations, the jury returned its verdict, finding Ali not guilty of the offence.

The allegation against him had been that on May 1st, 2019, he sexually penetrated the woman without her consent, or not having reasonably believed that she had consented.

The state’s case had been that the woman was raped after hiring Ali’s car to go home.

The state’s case was presented by Prosecutors Sarah Martin and Nafeeza Baig.

The trial was heard in-camera before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow at the Sexual Offences Court of the High Court in Georgetown.
