The three men suspected of robbing a fifty-seven-year-old businesswoman at Rockstone/Mabura Access Road on Friday night were on Saturday arrested by police.

According to a police press release, ranks from regions eight and ten intercepted the men about 1:15pm on Saturday while they were at the Konawaruk Junction, Potaro-Siparuni.

The release stated that the trio, a 29-year-old and two 25-year-olds, who are now in police custody were on two XR 150 motorcycles when they were intercepted. A search carried out on the suspects turned up four yellow metal chains, a pair of stud earrings, one dark blue Nokia cellphone, one black Alcatel cellphone, one black Samsung S7 cellphone, one dark blue Samsung J5 cellphone, and one dark blue GTT cellphone.

A search conducted of a haversack belonging to one of the suspects discovered three bulky scotch- taped plastic parcels containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis which was later weighed at the Mahdia Police Station and amounted to 1,243 grams.

According to an earlier police report, one of the suspects, who was dressed in a grey hoodie and was known to the woman, went up to her and purchased a pack of cigarettes, two bottles of water and a can of Canada Dry Ginger Ale. He then went to his two accomplices, who were dressed in  dark hoodies with their faces exposed.  They then rolled a joint (ganja) and began smoking, the police said. The suspects later rode off, heading in the direction of Mabura.

However, the police said, about 20 minutes later, the businesswoman heard her dogs barking continuously in the backyard, which is surrounded by thick vegetation. The police said that the suspect choked the woman’s grandson and pointed a handgun to his head, while the other two other suspects, whose faces were now tied with black jerseys, came out of the dark. They were both armed with handguns. They took him to the shop and told him not to make any noise as they barged in and confronted the owner, whom they told to lie down. The men then proceeded to rob the woman then made good their escape.
