Five more COVID deaths confirmed

The Ministry of Health (MoH) yesterday confirmed that five more people who were infected with COVID-19 have died.

With the new fatalities, the total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in Guyana has moved to 523.

A statement from the MoH identified the newly confirmed fatalities as a 45-year-old man, who died on July 21st; a 60-year-old man, who died on July 22nd; an 86-year-old man, who died on July 23rd; and two women who were both 73 years old who died on June 29th and July 2nd, respectively.   They were all residents of Region Four.  According to the Ministry, they died while receiving treatment at a healthcare facility.

For the month up to Friday, 46 persons who were infected with the virus have died, with 13 confirmed during the past week.

Meanwhile, the MoH’s COVID-19 dashboard showed that 240 new infections had been confirmed from the latest testing, increasing the total number of cases recorded in the country to 22,090 to date. Of the new cases, 173 are from Region Nine, 26 from Region Four, 18 from Region Three, 12 from Region Six, 4 from Region Ten, and 2 each from regions Two and Five. Some 2,263 tests were done.

The dashboard also showed that 11 persons were in the Intensive Care Unit, 75 in institutional isolation, 978 in home isolation and 2 in institutional quarantine.

Based on the dashboard from last Sunday to yesterday 619 person were confirmed to be infected with the virus from 8,754 tests.
