Guyana was up to last Thursday at the tail end of its recent Sputnik V shipment even as the COVID-19 vaccination programme continues.
Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony told his daily COVID-19 update that government was working to ensure that more vaccines are here soon as he spoke on the country’s vaccination programme and the procurement of shots.
“We have been getting second doses in increments and this week we have received 10,000 second doses. We have allocated this second dose to people who got their first dose in April and in May,” he informed. Further, the vaccines that have arrived recently have been distributed to all regions for those persons who have been waiting on their second jab.
Anthony noted that authorities are almost at the end of the shipment of vaccines that were received recently, but sought to assure persons that they should not be worried as the government has been constantly working to get supplies in. “We are right now at the tail end of that shipment that we received so I’m asking people for their patience as we work to make sure that we get more doses in.”
The minister pledged that as soon new supplies arrive they will be announced and iterated that persons should come forward to receive their second dose.
