Guyana hopes of earning its second piece of Olympic hardware ended yesterday after 400m athlete Aliyah Abrams finished seventh in her semifinal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Abrams who ran a season’s best 51.44s on Tuesday to clinch a semifinal berth could not replicate or produce a personal best and was unable to qualify for the finals scheduled for tomorrow.

The 24-year-old who represented Guyana at her second Olympic Games, clocked 51.46s in her semifinal which was won by favorite, Shaunae Miller-Uibo in 49.60s.

Guyana was represented at the Games of the 32nd Olympiad by seven athletes in four disciplines.

The athletes donning the colours at the prestigious global event included: Keevin Allicock, boxing; swimmers, Aleka Persaud and Andrew Fowler; table tennis player, Chelsea Edghill; along with track athletes, Aliyah, her sister Jasmine, and Emanuel Archibald. Aliyah was the only local athlete to progress to the semifinals.
