Man charged with selling gasoline without licence

A man was on Friday charged by the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) with selling petroleum and petroleum products while not being authorised to do so.

Derwain Bess appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where he was charged with conducting the business of a wholesaler of petroleum and petroleum products.

It is alleged that between September 28, 2020 and December 27, 2020, at 350 East Street, North Cummingsburg, George-town, he conducted the business of a wholesaler of petroleum and petroleum products, to wit, selling approximately 14,000 litres of gasoline and approximately 416,000 litres of diesel to Guyana Industrial Minerals Inc., (GINMIN) without authority to do so under a wholesale or an importing wholesale licence.

The man, who was represented by attorney-at-law Siand Dhurjon, pleaded not guilty and was placed on $100,000 bail. The matter was adjourned until October 18.
