Man fined $80,000 for ‘knife fight’ wounding

A man was yesterday fined $80,000 after he pleaded guilty to wounding another man in what he said was a knife fight.

William Evans, 30, of Lot 444 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in Georgetown to answer to the charge.

He admitted that on September 2, 2020, at West Ruimveldt, with intention to disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Scott.

According to the court prosecutor, they two men are known to each other. On the day in question, the two men had an argument at home, after which the defendant armed himself with a knife and damaged two of Scott’s fingers.

However, Evans told the court that Scott armed himself with a knife and he did the same.

If he fails to pay the fine he will have to serve three months in prison.
