Woman, 27, among four more COVID fatalities

Four more COVID-19 deaths were yesterday reported along with 14 new cases of the virus.

The Ministry of Health made the announcement in a press release which noted that the country’s total fatalities as a result of the virus now stands at 578. The latest fatalities were identified as two men, a 78- year-old from Region Ten and a 51-year-old from Region Four who both died on August 14. The other two deaths which occurred on August 15 were those of a 27-year-old woman from Region Four and a 50-year-old man from Region One.

The ministry noted that they all died while receiving care at medical institutions.

Meanwhile, the new cases that were reported increased the country’s total confirmed figure to 23,575. These came after some 391 more tests were done, thus increasing the total number of tests done to date to 244,884.

According to the regional distribution of cases, two new cases each were recorded in Regions One and Three, one new case each in Regions Two and Six and eight new cases in Region Four. There are now 982 active cases, 87 of whom are in institutional isolation while some 895 are in home isolation.

A total of 16 persons are currently patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit even as some 53 more persons recovered. The total number of recovered cases in the country now stand at 21,999.
