Four to face charge over Sophia murder

A week after Keon McPherson was shot and killed in Sophia, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised that four suspects be charged with his murder.

Police identified the accused as Nicholas Hercules, called ‘Bucko’, Brenna Nurse, Devon Harry and Peter Lam.

Head of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit Mark Ramotar yesterday confirmed that the police received legal ad-vice to charge the quartet.

They are expected to appear in court this week.

Twenty-four-year-old McPherson was found dead around 4am last Sunday in a ‘C’ Field, Sophia yard with gunshot wounds about his body.

An autopsy later showed that he died as a result of a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

It is believed that McPherson was killed due to his involvement in a triangular relationship and that he had been lured to the location and ambushed.

Police investigations revealed that McPherson was involved with a woman from ‘C’ Field, Sophia, who is also involved in a relationship with another man.

Around 4 am on Sunday, the Region Four Divisional Command Centre received a report from an unknown female caller, informing them that McPherson was seen in a yard at ‘C’ Field, lying motionless and bloodied.

He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The dead man’s brother, Keron McPherson had previously told this newspaper that hours before, Keon was stabbed and beaten as a result of an issue with his partner.

The man said he immediately made his way to the location in a bid to end the conflict and make peace with those involved.

He explained that upon arrival he asked the persons of interest around to leave his brother alone before taking him home.

However, in the early hours of Sunday morning, Keron stated that Keon’s girlfriend continued to call him and requested that he meet her to collect money he had given her for her daughter.

Keron said despite being warned and beaten hours before by the woman and persons known to her, Keon made his way to her.

However, fearing that trouble lay in store for him, a sister of the deceased asked a family friend to accompany Keon.

The brother further stated that the family friend who followed behind recalled seeing several persons armed and another who started firing shots.  He said the family friend related that he and Keon ran in different directions.

Last Sunday morning, the family was informed by a woman sometime after 6 am that Keon’s body was seen lying in a trench.
