Troy Resources security worker killed in workplace accident

The Ministry of Labour last evening announced the death of a Troy Resources security worker, who died in a workplace accident.

According to a release from the Ministry, Xanier Fraser, a 36-year-old attached to Troy’s Security Department, died on Friday evening in Region Seven.

Management of the company has confirmed that Fraser was fatally injured while carrying out a monitoring exercise on illegal mining in the Potaro land holding area of the company. His death is being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Department of the Ministry to determine the cause/ causes of the accident and to make recommendations to prevent similar accidents.

Labour Minister Joseph Hamilton is quoted as voicing his concern about the number of workplace fatalities. He has committed the Ministry of Labour to taking the necessary steps to facilitate a reduction in these numbers. He extended sympathy to the family, friends and co-workers of the deceased.
