Five robbed of gold jewellery, cash in Da Silva St hold-up

Five persons were on Wednesday robbed of millions in jewellery and cash in an attack at a business place at Da Silva Street, Newtown, Kitty.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the attack was carried out at 8.45 pm by three men armed with guns.

The police, in a report, stated that the three men entered the business place and held everyone at gunpoint, while demanding that they hand over their valuables.

One of the suspects remained in the yard with the victims while the other two entered the business place, where they held the goldsmith at gunpoint.

The report said the 40-year-old goldsmith was relieved of a quantity of gold jewellery valued $1.2 million, while a 56-year-old customer was relieved of a handbag containing US$2,200, $180,000, a quantity of jewellery valued at $590,000 and a cellphone valued $2,500 TT.

A second customer was robbed of a quantity of jewellery at a total cost of $650,000, while a third one was relieved of one cellphone valued at $40,000 and one silver chain at $30,000.

A fourth customer was also relieved of a gold chain, valued $70,000.

The suspects then escaped on two motorcycles (registration and numbers unknown).
