Chinese medical brigade donates US$100,000 in equipment

The 16th Chinese Medical Brigade has donated US$100,000 in advanced medical equipment and instruments to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

A release from the Ministry said that it received a donation of Viral Acid Nucleic Extraction Kits and other medical supplies from the Government of China and the 16th Medical Brigade last Tuesday.

Present at the handing over ceremony held at the Ministry of Health’s Brickdam Headquarters were Anthony; Dr. Horace Cox, Director of the Vector Control Services; Charge d’ Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, Chen Xilai; Qiao Zhiming, Captain of the 16th Medical Brigade and other members of the team.

During his brief remarks, Anthony extended his appreciation to the Government of China and the Medical Brigade on behalf of the Ministry of Health and the Government of Guyana, for their continual support towards the development of Guyana’s health sector, especially during the global pandemic. He also said that Guyana looks forward for future collaborations and partnership with the Government of China.

According to the release, the supplies will be distributed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) to aid in the fight against COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Zhiming said that the team is happy to assist Guyana as they have been doing for the past decades and revealed that the value of the donation was US$100,000.
