Man dies three weeks after Liliendaal accident

An elderly man who was hospitalised three weeks ago with broken legs after he was struck down in a hit-and-run accident at the Railway Embankment at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Daniram Harrilall, 60, remained a patient in the High Dependency Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) until he passed away.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) had said that Harrilall was crossing at the Railway Embankment, at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara, at 2 am on August 6th, when he was hit down by a car, bearing registration number PZZ 1276.

The police disclosed that Harrilall was walking along the southern side of the Railway Embankment when he was struck by the vehicle. As a result, he fell on the road surface and suffered injuries about his body.

He was picked up by Emergency Medical Technicians in an unconscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was later admitted to the Accident and Emergency Unit’s Critical Bay.

It is unclear in which direction the vehicle was headed. The driver drove away after the accident but after a report was made to the police the scene was visited and the vehicle’s registration plate was discovered along the roadway.
