LONDON, CMC – Montserrat international Rohan Ince featured in an early quick-fire double that laid the foundation for Woking’s thumping 4-0 away victory over 10-man Torquay United in an English National League match at Plainmoor yesterday.

The Cardinals raced into a 2-0 lead inside four minutes, with winger Tahvon Campbell heading in Jordan Maguire-Drew’s cross before teeing up Ince, a 28-year-old midfielder, who has made five appearances for Montserrat since making his debut in March, for a second.

Fifth-tier Torquay’s day went from bad to worse in the 23rd minute when they were reduced to 10 men after Chiori Johnson was shown a second yellow card and Campbell doubled his tally 10 minutes into the second half.

Substitute Kane Thompson-Sommers notched a fourth in stoppage time to leave Torquay, who narrowly missed out on promotion to League Two last season, without a win this term. They were also reduced to 10 men on Saturday but clung on for a point in a 1-1 draw at Notts County.

Omari Sterling-James, a 27-year-old St Kitts and Nevis striker, was also on target, opening the scoring in the 25th minute, as third-placed Kidderminster Harriers beat Chester 3-1 in the sixth-tier National League North.

The result came two days after Harriers drew 1-1 at Southport – a game in which Sterling-James came on as a second-half substitute.

“I thought our energy and intensity was first-rate,” Harriers’ assistant manager Jimmy O’Connor said after Monday’s victory.

Sterling-James has scored three goals in 10 appearances for the Sugar Boyz since making his debut for the Caribbean side in 2017.

In another fixture, Roarie Deacon, a 29-year-old midfielder of Jamaican descent, put Maidstone United ahead in the 76th minute, but they had to settle for a point against Hampton & Richmond in a 1-1 draw in the National League South.

Meanwhile, UK-born Chelsea defender Dujon Sterling, 21, who is also of Jamaican descent, is set to sign a new contract before going out on loan to Championship side Blackpool, having spent previous seasons on loan at Coventry City and Wigan Athletic.

Sterling, whose current deal with the Premier League outfit expires at the end of the 2021-2022 season, was injured for the first half of last season before recovering to play for Chelsea’s development team.

Blackpool, 22nd in the table, have so far signed 10 players this summer.
