Two fishermen are now on $100,000 bail after being charged with stealing water tanks and an ice cooler from a ship at the Guyana National Shipping Corporation wharf.

Clinton Gobin, 58, of William Street, Kitty, Georgetown, and Michael Alicock, 40, of James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, were brought before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The men denied that on September 2, at the Guyana National Shipping Corporation wharf, Georgetown, they stole from the “Nina” ship, an ice cooler and five 450-gallon tanks, total value being $475,000, property of Sookdeo Chapan.

The fishermen were released on $100,000 bail after Prosecutor Christopher Morris told the court that there were no previous convictions for the men and therefore there were no concerns that the men would stop attending court.

The matter will be heard again on October 1.
