Police officers on patrol were yesterday shot at by a suspected gang member along the Ogle Airport road.

According to the Guyana Police Force, acting on information received in relation to armed robberies in the Region 4(C), patrol ranks on mobile surveillance around 6.15 am yesterday, observed and trailed four members of a suspected gang riding along the Plaisance Railway Embankment.

The police, in an attempt to intercept the two motorcycles, drove up and closed in on the men after it was suspected from their actions that they were about to rob a woman standing on the roadway.  However, the suspects drove away which led to the police giving chase.

As a result of the chase, the suspects separated and rode in different directions. Nevertheless, the police continued behind one of the suspects along the Ogle Airport road, during which the pillion rider discharged rounds at the police.

The report said the police returned fire and the two suspects abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot.

Their decision however, led to one being arrested. No one was injured during the exchange of gunfire.
