Car crash lands soldier in embassy compound

A Guyana Defence Force soldier has been left hospitalised after he crashed his vehicle in wee hours of Saturday morning and ended up in the Russian Embassy compound.

Corporal Dwayne Samuels, 42, is reported to be in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was rushed after the accident.

The police said Samuels, of Lot 297 Bachelor’s Adventure, on the East Coast of Demerara, was driving his car, PYY 991, west along the southern drive lane on Rupert Craig Highway at a fast rate of speed, when he lost control of the vehicle.

At the time he was attempting to navigate the turn in the vicinity of the Russian Embassy.

As a result, the vehicle hit a billboard situated on the western parapet, continued to proceed further in a western direction and crashed into a concrete barrier. The car then flipped over the concrete fence and landed in the Russian Embassy compound.

Members of the Guyana Fire Service were summoned and they removed the driver, who was in a semi-conscious state, and with the assistance of EMT personnel they rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
