Lusignan prisoner fatally stabbed in fight

Three men are presently in police custody over the fatal stabbing of a twenty-three-year-old prisoner on remand at the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara.

The deceased, Eijad Mohamed Alli, of Green Heart Street, Mackenzie, Linden who was being housed in Holding Bay 2 at Lusignan, was killed between 18.10 and 18.20 hours.

The Guyana Police Force in a release stated that Ali was confronted by the three suspects, who accused him of stealing an improvised weapon. The weapon in question was reportedly then taken from him by one of the suspects and a fight later ensued between Ali and another suspect who subsequently stabbed him several times in his lower right abdomen. 

The victim was taken to the Lusignan Prison Infirmary and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he succumbed to his injuries while being treated.

The body of the deceased is presently at the GPH mortuary.

Alli was charged in May with two counts of simple larceny.
