Searches were ongoing yesterday for the body of a 37-year-old farmer from Abrams Creek, Upper Pomeroon, in Region Two, who went missing on Monday night after his paddle boat collided with another vessel.

The accident occurred around 9pm on Monday.

According to his father, Mangal Chandrika Persaud left home around 5.30 pm to purchase a battery from a nearby shop.

The father, Chandrika Persaud, said he was on his veranda when he heard a loud impact and as a result he ran outside in the direction from where he heard the noise. He immediately raised an alarm and called his cousin Moukram Singh so that they could drive down the river to find out what happened.

“We drove down and… we saw my son boat and then it was upside down and he was not nowhere to be found. We knew something was wrong,” the father related.

The other boat involved in the accident was not seen.

The father immediately went to the Charity Police Station and made a report. The scene was visited by police, who were up to yesterday investigating the incident. Both residents and police were conducting searches.
