A Deputy Superintendent of Police is now in custody after 20 pounds of cannabis was found in his vehicle on Friday night, following a failed bid to evade fellow law enforcers.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), acting on information received, police ranks stopped a car driven by Deputy Superintendent of Police Dexter Brown at a roadblock at Helena No. 2 Public Road, East Coast Demerara, around 9.15pm on Friday.

The GPF, in a statement, noted that the vehicle had earlier eluded a police patrol in the Regional Police Division 5.

It said while the vehicle was at the roadblock, the police patrol from the Regional Police Division 5 drove up, resulting in Brown driving through the roadblock in an attempt to escape. He was, however, pursued by the ranks and was intercepted at Lima Dam, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.

The vehicle was searched and 9.4 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa and two rounds of 9mm ammunition were found.

As a result, Brown was arrested and the vehicle was impounded.
