Biker dies after collision with former head of Presidential Guard

Former Head of Presidential Guard Brian Joseph is currently under police investigation after the vehicle he was driving was involved in a fatal accident on Friday afternoon.

The Guyana Police Force said the accident claimed the life of 49-year-old Isgar Esau, a motorcyclist of Lot 58 Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara (WBD).

Joseph, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, was questioned and later released on Friday night on $100,000 station bail.

The accident occurred along the Meer Zorgen Public Road in the vicinity of the Demerara Harbour Bridge, WBD, just around 2.10 pm.

Investigations have revealed that PZZ 6015, which was being driven by Joseph, was proceeding west along the southern side of the Meer Zorgen Public Road (Harbour Bridge Road), WBD, when  he attempted to turn north at the T-junction.

In the process of navigating the turn, police said, the front of the car collided with the front of Esau’s motorcycle, CH 7636.

As a result of the collision, Esau fell and received injuries to his head and body.

He was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor who pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police said Joseph was arrested and taken into custody immediately after the accident.
