Allicock, Amsterdam set for action after first round byes

Two of Guyana’s elite boxers, Kevin Allicock and Desmond Amsterdam are in Belgrade, Serbia to compete at this year’s AIBA men’s world boxing championships.Olympian Allicock (featherweight) and Amsterdam (middleweight), both received a ‘bye’ to the next round of their respective divisions.Allicock will spring into action Thursday while Amsterdam will be in the ring Saturday for the event which will conclude on November 6.The event got underway last evening at the Štark Arena in Belgrade, with preliminary bouts in the under-57 kilogram and under-67kg categories.For the first time in AIBA’s 75-year history, medal winners will be rewarded prize money.Gold medalists will pocket $100,000, silver medallists $50,000, and each bronze medallists $25,000.
