Team Guyana is ready to perform at the Jr. South American Swimming Championships.

The Guyana Swim Team which arrived safely in Peru on Wednesday will swing into action from today as the Junior South American Swimming Championships gets underway.

“We had our first interactive training session with Coaches and Swimmers on the 4th November, 2021 at 10am,” a release from the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association stated recently.

According to reports, the team has been training consistently up to yesterday despite some challenges with breathing.

“So far, the swimmers are all in good health, conducting themselves well, eating their meals provided, training and hydrating as necessary,” stated the release.

President of GASA, Dwayne Scott,  has  indicated that he expects the team to do well.

“We expect a few medals here if possible but the reality here is that it’s the largest contingent to date that would have attended any games except the Goodwill Games which is more of junior level games,” he said.

The GASA boss said that it was time that the swimmers measure themselves against their  peers to see exactly where they are and what needs to  be done and how to do it.

“We see this as a building block towards the junior Pan Am Games to be held in Cali, Columbia later on in the month and subsequently the CARIFTA games that come on early next year,” he said.

The Guyana team comprises of Olympian, Aleka Persaud, Leon Seaton Jr., Elliott Gonsalves, Patrice Mahaica, Daniel Claxton, Ariel Rodrigues, Amber Degoeas, Shareffah Lewis and Nathan Jackson along with coaches, Sean Baksh and Shyka Gonsalves.

GASA’s secretary Yalema Phillips will be joining the team at a later date to  attend the Administrative Congress offered by CONSANAT, the South American governing swim body.
