Mings Optical on Saturday opened their upgraded location at Williamsburg, Corentyne.

Dr. Michele Ming, Chief Executive Officer of Mings Optical, told Stabroek News, after the opening which saw the attendance of Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony that they had opened their first location in the region in 2013, where they would  work on Saturdays “and the place was a bit small and to accommodate people we put out a tent and every Saturday we used to come and then we decided to have a lot more space and we can have more clinic days.”

According to Dr. Ming, the new location will now operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm.

The upgraded facilities

The services offered at the new location will include comprehensive eye care which will cover eye testing and purchases of spectacles and contact lenses.

However, Dr. Ming also stressed, that “we will be able to monitor for all the eye diseases as well.”

She noted, that they are also offering glaucoma testing and since they have a visual field machine at the location Berbicians would no longer have to travel to Georgetown to get a visual field test. She stressed, that several other types of testing can also be done at the location.

She stated, “They really need the care here in the whole Berbice, and they need a lot of facilities for the eye care, not just the eye care spectacles but the total package because the key is early detection to get all the diseases early. There is a lot of diabetes here, a lot of hypertension, glaucoma, and cataract.”

Furthermore, Dr. Ming pointed out, that one of their optometrists specializes in paediatrics and is expected to set up and work at the location so as to provide extensive eye care for children including vision therapy etc.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ming noted that since they opened their first location, a couple doors away from Rose Hall Town, she found the area to be very comfortable and so when they decided to expand they were ecstatic to secure a location a short distance away.

“But we do see people all the way up from Skeldon, New Amsterdam, all the around the area,” she added.

Additionally, the location will offer employment to persons after training, Dr. Ming noted.

Mings Optical also has locations in Georgetown, Parika and Mon Repos.
