The daughter of strangled security guard Indira Lall is claiming that the taxi driver who was the last person to see her mother alive refused to transport her to the hospital.

Reshma Lall said around 22:50 hrs on Monday the driver showed up in front of her home with her mother, whom he said was in urgent need of medical attention.

Speaking with Stabroek News, Reshma Lall said that when she saw her mother she could not believe it.

“My mommy was lying helplessly and the taxi driver said that I must take her to the hospital. I told him let’s not delay, let’s take her. He then told me that his car lights were not working and as such my husband and I took her to the hospital,” she related.

The deceased’s daughter said on her way to the hospital she was shaking her mother but she was unresponsive. She said when they arrived at the Suddie Public Hospital, her mother was pronounced dead and the family was informed that she died about half hour before.

An autopsy conducted by Dr Nehaul Singh on Thursday revealed that Indira Lall died from strangulation, prompting police in Region Two to arrest the taxi driver. He is currently in custody.

Lall, 52, had been a security guard for 10 years.

Her daughter-in-law, Emily Lall, said that the deceased had been working a double shift that day at the C V Nunes Primary.

She left home at 06:30 hrs in the morning, returned home and then left around 16:30 hours for her next shift. She was filling in for another security guard who was absent. According to records at the school, the deceased signed out around 21:30 hours. As a result, the daughter-in-law is therefore questioning how the taxi driver ended up taking her home at 22:50 hours.

Relatives said that the deceased was not sick and her death came as a shock. They also related that the woman had a pair of gold bangles, which they have not been able to locate.

When questioned if the taxi driver and the woman may have had a relationship, relatives said that they were not aware of anything of the sort. They noted that the woman would usually use either of two taxis to get home from work.
