Three New Amsterdam family members arrested over break-in at Courts

A New Amsterdam woman, her son and nephew,  have been arrested for allegedly breaking into Courts Inc’s, New Amsterdam branch on Saturday morning.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the Assistant Manager of Courts, located at St. Ann’s Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice discovered that the store had been broken into just around 5.55 am on Saturday after receiving information that the door to the building was noticed open.

“She immediately proceeded to the said location where she observed that the northwestern door was broken down. She later made further checks and observed that the mentioned articles were missing”, the police said.

The report noted, that one AKT motorcycle valued $353,000 along with a quantity of electrical appliances were discovered stolen.

However, according to the police, they acted on information received, and proceeded to the home of one of the suspects, 15, around 10 am yesterday, where “he related to the police that he along with his 18-year-old cousin went into the Courts building and stole the aforementioned items.”

The police’s statement noted that one white AKT motorcycle, one dark grey HP laptop, one blue Acer laptop, three headphones, one extreme skater game and two computer chargers were recovered in a clump of bushes at Strand and Charles Place, New Amsterdam.

The ranks then proceeded to another location where “the 42-year-old mother was contacted and a search was conducted in a wooden security hut”, where the one black Samsung electronic tablet, one TCL black cellular phone, one BLU G61 cellular phone and one black Radio Shack music box were then recovered.

According to the police, all the items recovered were taken to Central Police Station along with the suspects where the items recovered were positively identified by the manager of Courts New Amsterdam Branch to be the property of Courts. 

As of yesterday afternoon the suspects were in custody pending further investigations.
