Police probing death of toddler

The police are probing the death of a toddler, whose decomposed body was found in a canal at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara (EBD) yesterday afternoon.

The discovery was made around 14.15hrs about fifteen feet from the Demerara River.

At the time, the toddler, who appeared to be between two to three weeks old was headless.

According to the police, persons were walking along a trail beside the five-door koker canal at  Land of Canaan, EBD when they observed the body floating.

The police were immediately summoned. With the help of a 19-year-old resident, the police said ranks canvassed the area and the body was eventually found in a clump of grass in the canal.

The body was examined. However, due to the state of decomposition, ranks were unable to determine whether it bore any marks of violence.

The body was transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
