Two teenaged motorcyclists died after they collided on the Karaudarnau Trail, Deep South Rupununi, Region Nine on Monday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as 18-year-old Lennon Wilson of Katoonarib Village and 19-year-old Jobe Edwards of Karaudarnau Village, Deep South Rupununi.

The accident occurred around 2.30 pm on Monday.

Police in a brief report yesterday stated that Wilson who was the rider of motorcycle NAZ 9974 was proceeding east from a track onto the trail whilst Edwards the rider of motorcycle NAP 7804, was approaching west from the southern side of the Karaudarnau Trail.

At the time, the police said that Edwards was descending a hill at an allegedly fast rate when Wilson drove onto the said trail from the track without due care and into the path of the other and a collision occurred.

They were both picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Aishalton Health Centre where Wilson was pronounced dead on arrival. Edwards, who was still alive was treated for head injuries and lacerations about his body and later referred to the Lethem Regional Hospital for further medical attention. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

While extending condolences to the relatives of the deceased, the police urged commuters to exercise care and caution on the roads and trails across Guyana.
