Former Minister of Education Nicolette Henry today resigned from the National Assembly in order to pave the way for recently-elected People’s National Congress Reform Leader Aubrey Norton to become an APNU+AFC Member of Parliament (MP).
Henry made the announcement to the National Assembly as she made her final address to the House.
“This is my final budget presentation in this House,” an emotional Henry said, her voice cracking at intervals as she fought to hold back tears.
As she thanked supporters for allowing her the honour of serving in the Parliament, she singled out President David Granger and former Opposition Leader Joseph Harmon.
Norton is expected to take up the post of Opposition Leader, following the recent resignation of Harmon from the post, in keeping with a decision of the PNCR, which is the largest party in the opposition coalition.
