Teen dies after bike crash in C’ville

A teen died on Thursday after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding and crashed into a parked vehicle along Craig Street, Campbellville, George-town.

Dead is Elijah Profitt, 18, of Lot 7 Craig Street, Campbellville, who was riding motorcycle CJ 7433.

According to a Guyana Police Force (GPF) press release, the accident occurred at about 10:30 hrs in the vicinity of Star Party Rental.

Based on CCTV footage obtained by the police, the deceased was seen heading west along Craig Street at a fast rate when he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into the rear of a parked pick-up, bearing registration number GLL 5260. The pick-up, owned by Bryon Barakat of Lot 32 Barrack Street, Kingston, Georgetown, was parked on the southern parapet facing west.

Due to the sudden impact, Profitt, who was not wearing a safety helmet, received injuries to his head and about his body. He was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the police, it is unclear whether Profitt was a holder of a provisional or driver’s licence.

His body is presently at the GPH mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.
