It is now safe for me to re-occupy my home

Dear Editor,

Safe occupation of my farm house at Onderneeming Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast is once again possible after the appropriate action was taken to “rid” a tall coconut tree laden with produce from my neighbor’s yard that was hanging dangerously over the building. For almost two years, the house was abandoned for fear of anything serious happening if one happen to be inside or outside around the premises. During this time, several letters were published in the newspapers of approaches being made to the District Council, top Regional Officials and even the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development to ensure that the tree was cut down but it was just useless. In such a simple matter the intervention of the President became necessary but he responded. All along the owner of the tree was adamant to “get rid” of it but on his own violation decided to do so. As a matter of interest to me I had to pay all expenses to a man referred to as a coconut tree doctor for a job well done. The Doctor did not cut the tree trunk from the bottom but instead climbed to the top, cut off all the branches and then poured a poisonous substance in the heart that will cause it to die.

Sincerely,

Sohan Seemangal
