Fernandes, Arjoon to spearhead PanAm squash teams

Seasoned campaigner and former Caribbean champion Nicolette Fernandes as well as the experienced Alex Arjoon, will headline the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) senior women and men’s team respectively which will compete at the Pan American Championships from April 3rd – 9th in Guatemala.

This was confirmed by the local governing association yesterday during a simple press conference staged at the Georgetown Club Racquet facility, Camp Street.

Fernandes, during brief remarks, expressed confidence in the overall quality of the combined team assembled, adding that the team possessed the capacity to perform credibly.  

The experienced Fernandes leads a quartet which comprises Ashley Khalil, Mary Fung-A-Fat and Gabrielle Fraser while Arjoon serves as the captain of  a foursome that consists of Kristian Jeffrey, Jason Ray Khalil and Samuel Ince-Carvalhal.

The players were selected based on their respective performances in the recently staged GSA National Senior Championship.

Notable absentee is national men’s singles champion Shomari Wiltshire.

Meanwhile, the management team is headed by Coach Ramon Chan-A-Sue, while Garfield Wiltshire and Alwyn Callender will serve in the capacity of Manager and Referee respectively.

The sponsors of the team include the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), the National Sports Commission (NSC), Cosmetics Beauty World, Modern Optical, John Fernandes Limited, and Excel Guyana Incorporated.
