DCC and Transport register hefty wins

The Georgetown Cricket Association/Ramchand Auto Sales/Survival Group of Companies/Trophy Stall under-19 50-over tournament continued yesterday with Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Transport Sports Club registering commanding victories at Queen’s College.

Against hosts, Queens College, Transport batting first, posted 314 for seven before restricting the school side to 94 all out in 29 overs.

Riyad Latif top scored with 79 from 77 balls, his innings featured three sixes and five fours. Latif added 62 for the sixth wicket with Dave Mohabir who made a 34-ball 28.

Latif’s brother, Ryan, gave Transport a solid foundation with 52 from 65 balls, laced with two sixes and six fours as he added 74 for the second wicket with captain, Alvin Mohabir who made 43 from 36 balls, highlighted by six fours and a six.

Nehemiah Hoenkirk (29), Kelvin Gordon (26) and Myhiem Khan (16) all chipped in with useful cameos while extras accounted for 40. Malachi Griffith was the pick of the bowlers with 4-34.

Queen’s College’s chase was foiled by Khan and Riyad Latif who returned to take three wickets each for 17 and 18 respectively. Extras tallied 28 with Anthony Lim making 23 and Griffith 19.

Over at DCC, the hosts secured a 255-run win over GT XI after winning the toss, selecting to bat and posting 361 for eight. GT XI were bowled out for 106 in 29.4 overs.

Jonathan Van Lange piloted DCC’s innings with a blistering 70-ball 141 which featured 14 sixes and seven fours on the Queenstown Ground. Van Lange, who represented Guyana at both table tennis and youth cricket shared a 154-run fourth wicket partnership with Ezekiel Wilson (42).

Gustavus Hutson made a-ball-a-run 66 with five fours and five sixes while adding 133 for the opening wicket with Jayden Dowling, who made 40 from 92 balls. Reyaz Latif bagged 5-41 with Joshua Daniels picking up 2-42. Extras chalked up 52.

Wilson returned to grab 3-11 while Joshua Walcott returned 3-20 and John Persaud taking 2-12. Gabriel Rookhum and Daniels both made 21 but it was extras that tallied the most with 35.
