Latif, Singh’s five-for rout GNIC for 39

Five-wicket hauls from Reyaz Latif and Josiah Singh spurred GT XI to a 94-run win over the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) while Dave Mohabir’s 6-26 inspired Transport to a 52-run victory over Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) yesterday.

The Georgetown Cricket Association/Ramchand Auto Sales/Survival Group of Companies/Trophy Stall Under-19 limited overs tournament continued at the Queen’s College ground where GT XI batting first after the match was reduced to 45 overs due to a late start, posted 133 all out in 22 overs.

GNIC, in reply, were bowled out for a paltry 39 in 9.3 overs.

Latif returned 5-5 from 4.3 overs while Singh bagged 5-33 from five overs as no batsman reached double figures. Extras, however, contributed 29 runs to the total.

Earlier, it was Extras that aided GT XI as well, tallying an even 50 with 38 wides. Emanuel Lewis top scored with 29 while Latif (17) and Joshua Daniels (12) were the only other batsmen with double-figure cameos. Darious Singh was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5-29 while Roupie Rajaram took 2-43.

At MYO, the hosts were bundled out for 67 in 14.3 overs in response to Transport’s 119 all out which came in 28.3 overs after they won the toss and decided to bat first.

Mohabir bagged 6-26 from seven overs while Nehemiah Hohenkirk took 3-5 in 2.3 overs. Jonathan Rampersaud top scored with 24 from 15 balls, laced with two fours and two sixes while extras chalked up 24 runs. Delon Ramroop made 10 and no other batsman scored more than five.

Eariler, Hohenkirk top scored with 38 from 45 balls. His innings featured five fours and two sixes before he was caught and bowled by Sameer Housain. He was supported by Shiloh Adams with 24 from 47 balls and Alvin Mohabir with 18. Extras tallied 29 runs. Housain was the principal wicket-taker with 4-36 while Rampersaud returned 2-25.
