Child critical after stabbed by mother’s partner during argument

A four-year-old girl is currently in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after she was stabbed by her mother’s partner on Sunday evening following an argument between the women.

 Police are currently on the hunt for the suspect.

According to  the Guyana Police Force’s  Public Relations Officer, Mark Ramotar, the victim along with her mother and the suspect whom her mother shares a relationship with, all reside at Timehri, East Bank Demerara.

The incident which is reported to have taken place at the home of the victim occurred at about 7:45pm on Sunday. According to a report made by the child’s mother, she and the suspect had an argument over clothing.

The mother of the child related that owing to numerous previous arguments with the suspect, she became frustrated and picking up the child, proceeded to leave. The suspect however, in a fit of rage, armed herself with a knife and lunged towards the woman but ended up stabbing the child in the left side of her abdomen.

The suspect then escaped.

The child was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and then transferred to the GPH where she remains a patient.

Police investigations are ongoing.
