(Trinidad Guardian) Police have launched a manhunt for the killers of Amar Mohammed, 23.

The lifeless body of Mohammed, who was reported as a missing person, was found by a search group on Monday morning under a coconut tree at Manzanilla.

Both his hands and feet were tied and his throat was slit.

It is believed that the assailants, after robbing the man of his gold chain and an undisclosed sum of cash, escaped in his truck.

Mohammed’s grandmother Chandra Beepath told Guardian Media that around 10.30 am he told her he was going to the beach and left their Clarke Trace, Plum Road home.

She said around 1 am, when they did not see him return home they initially thought he was by his girlfriend in Curepe.

As time passed the relatives got more worried as calls to his cellphone went straight to voice mail.

Mohammed’s aunt Reishma Lall said she and her husband were driving towards Mayaro on Monday when they spotted Mohammed’s truck speeding towards Manzanilla.

She said the man driving the truck had on a black jersey and was accompanied by two other people.

They later learnt that Akash had not returned home.

A report was made to the Manzanilla police.

Relatives also decided to form a search group and went to areas where he frequented on the beach during which they found his body.

Officers attached to the Arouca Homicide Bureau are investigating.
