Because of our recent experiences Guyana should be a bastion for freedom and self-determination

Dear Editor,

When the elections in Guyana were in the process of being rigged in 2020, had we waited for the international community to react until after an investigation of rigging was completed, we would have been living under the consequences of that delay today. God knows the path we would have gone down then. Today, with all the visual proof of the atrocities meted out to ordinary, innocent civilians in Ukraine, we, as a country should have put our stamp on the right side of history. Instead we are pussyfooting. Instead of remaining relics of the cold war we should be a bastion for freedom and self-determination. Russia’s cold blooded, reckless invasion of the territorial integrity of Ukraine leaves no room for abstention. We must go all the way and be on the right side of this moral equation.

Sincerely,

Sharir Chan
